01 Ford Ranger
The 2001 Ford Ranger has been redesigned slightly on the outside and has been given a more powerful choice of power trains under the hood. The truck was first produced in 1984 and even with this overhaul it still looks rather similar to the original model. Part of this trucks heritage is the fact that the Ford Motor Company hasn’t changed a lot about the it because it hasn’t had to. The truck is now known for its superb reliability and quality engineering. Owners find that the maintenance costs often only are that of routine basics like tires and oil changes.
Trim packages available include the XL, XLT, Sport, and off road engineered Fx4. XL models constitute the basic trim level offering no power windows, locks, or AC. Standard features of an XL are cloth interior fabrics, basic AM/FM stereos, and possible work flooring (plastic) for easy washing. XLT models are the mid-level package offering power accessories like windows and door locks. Optional features for XLT models include CD players, better choice of interior fabrics, cruise control, ABS, and a few others.
Both the Sport and FX4 models can be found customized in a multitude of different ways. The best interior fabrics are reserved for these models along with CD players, cruise control, remote keyless entry, and bucket seats. All of these models are offered in either regular, extended, or super cabs. The sport packages have specially tuned suspension systems made for the best highway performance possible. Off road packages were designed with raised bodies, custom Bilstein shocks, and specially geared 4 wheel drive systems. The FX4 is one of the most popular off road packages for the mid-size truck class.
2001 Ford Ranger trucks come with either a 2.3 liter four cylinder engine or a 4.0 liter V6. The smaller four cylinder is more than adequate for trucks with small bodies and only 2 wheel drive. For the best experience it is highly recommended that buyers look at purchasing a 4.0 liter V6 equipped model. All sport and Fx4 models come with the V6. The 4 cylinder engine comes with a standard 5 speed manual transmission and an optional 4 speed automatic. The V6 motors are only offered with a automatic transmission.
Compared with other competitors the 2001 Ford Ranger is very nimble both an and off road. The superb handling is owed to the compact size of the vehicle and the specially tweaked suspension systems offered. Where the Ranger can be viewed negatively is how modern it is in comparison with many of the competition’s models. Although the Ranger is a more than capable truck, it fails to offer the creature comforts buyers have come to expect from a modern vehicle in the 21st century. Fortunately the great pricing, and optional features make driving these compact trucks very enjoyable.
The Ford Ranger is a very sensible purchase for buyers who are looking for a reliable vehicle that won’t impact their budget too much. It also is reasonable for those who don’t mind not having the sportiest looking truck, and need a heavy duty 4 wheel drive capable beast. The roomy cabin sizes on the larger models also make this ideal for those who need to transport a family or fellow workers more than just on a rare occassion.
